Senior Analyst - Unix Administrator

Duration:             5 month contract

Location:              Richmond, Virginia

 

Must have excellent Communication skills. This is a backfill. Phone to hire.

Experience with Satellite, Kickstart, or more advanced scripting as well as Red Hat is huge.

 

Position Requirements:

•6+ years of experience with HP server administration

•4 year degree in IT related course of study, preferred

•6+ years Unix scripting, HP-UX, Linux expertise

•Certified Systems Engineer or similar

 

The Senior Analyst – UNIX position is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting server and storage solutions based upon the needs of the business and industry best practices. This position designs and test plans to ensure the stability and integrity of systems.  This position is responsible for troubleshooting and analyzing failures to minimize outages and service interruptions relating to the UNIX infrastructure. The Senior Analyst proactively identifies and recommends updates to software, hardware, or architecture as necessary and in accordance with company objectives. This position reviews Business and Technical Architectural requirements to develop and recommend unique solutions for the server and storage framework. This position develops and manages server, storage and application configurations, implementations, new projects and technologies. This positions performs hardware, software installation and administration duties.

This position requires partnering with other members of the IT community in order to successfully complete assignments. Generally, this will involve mentoring and providing direction to junior associates.

 

Server Solutions Development & Projects

•Analyzing, designing and implementing new technologies for applications within the environment

•Providing accurate and relevant budgeting documentation such as quotes, purchase orders, analysis, proposals, etc.

•Developing and implementing operating system enhancements that improve server reliability and performance

•Adhering the IT Project Methodology

•Leading or participating in projects that involve several different IT departments

•Performing root cause analysis and repair of technical issues and trends to include assisting team members as needed

•Develop and communicate technical standards

 

Server Administration

•Developing and promoting standard operations documentation such as procedures, checklists, and instructions

•Ensuring systems adherence and compliance with security standards and practices

•System capacity planning

•Provide 2nd and 3rd level administrative support

•Responsible for recognizing barriers to success and plan accordingly

 

Analysis and Trending

•Ensuring long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization

•Performing root cause analysis and repair of technical issues and trends to include assisting team members as needed

•Developing and communicating technical standards

 

Team Development (Mentoring & Assisting)

•Educating, training and providing support to junior team members on newly adopted technologies and processes

•Reviewing work related documentation for team members

•Motivating and assisting team members in reaching goals

 

Additional Responsibilities

•Participates in a 24x7 on-call rotation as scheduled and must perform after hours support

•Assist in developing budgets for long and short term requirements

•Participates in customer/project meeting(s) and assists in design review. Evaluates the needs and requirements of the users and provides technical expertise

•3rd party vendor management

•Other duties as assigned by manager

•Some travel may be required
